Why We Support IIMC

Based in West Bengal, India, The Institute for Indian Mother and Child (IIMC) is a grassroots nonprofit organisation founded in 1989 by Dr Sujit Brahmochary. IIMC was established to empower women and children living in poverty and to create lasting pathways out of poverty.

What we love at Delaco Panels is IIMC’s integrated community development model. By combining healthcare, education, and women’s economic empowerment, IIMC doesn’t just address immediate needs, it builds long-term resilience and self-sufficiency within communities.

Since it was founded in 1989 millions of people have positively impacted by IIMCs work and child sponsorship program. Yet in West Bengal more than nine million people continue to live below the poverty line. The need remains significant, and so does the opportunity to make a difference.

Join Us to Support IIMC

We would love you to partner with us to support IIMC deliver more practical, life-changing programs, including:

  • Antenatal and postnatal care
  • Essential medicines and clinic supplies
  • Access to education for children
  • Access to microcredit which helps women start their own business

Every dollar contributes directly to meaningful, on-the-ground impact.

Our Focus is Education

While all of IIMC’s programmes are vital, we particularly value their commitment to education as a catalyst for lasting change. Each year, thousands of children who once faced limited opportunities are given access to quality education, breaking the cycle of poverty and building brighter futures for themselves and their families.

Through its sponsorship program, IIMC has:

  • Supported the construction of more than 30 schools
  • Educated over 4,000 children each year
  • Seen multiple schools independently funded by Australian donors

These include:

  • IIMC Sikshangan Nagendrapur School (inaugurated October 2012)
  • Dhaki Primary School (inaugurated December 2014)
  • Emmanuel College School (inaugurated January 2018)

Meet Abbie, and the documentary that brought this to life

One of our partners, Abbie (Abigail Knight), travelled to India and created a short documentary about IIMC’s work and the lives it supports. Her award winning film, More Than Milk, shares stories from women involved in IIMC’s “cow project”, a program that helps women build income and stability through small business support.

Abbie’s documentary has been used as a fundraising and awareness piece for IIMC, and it helped our team understand the impact behind every donation.

What does IIMC focus on?

While every program delivered by The Institute for Indian Mother and Child (IIMC) is vital, the organisation believes that education is the most powerful catalyst for lasting change in the lives of children, families, and entire communities.

Through its sponsorship programme, IIMC has supported the construction of more than 30 schools and provides education to over 4,000 children each year creating pathways out of poverty and transforming lives for generations to come.

In addition to many children being sponsored, three IIMC schools have been independently funded by Australian donors.

  • IIMC Sikshangan Nagendrapur school (inaugurated Oct 2012)
  • Dhaki primary school (inaugurated Dec 2014)
  • Emmanuel College (inaugurated Jan 2018)
